Precision Agriculture Workshop Set for July 21 at UMC

The University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC) will host its fourth precision agriculture workshop, “Yield Monitoring Do's and Don'ts,” Friday, July 21, 2000.  The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Dowell Hall, room 201 on the UMC campus.  Registration begins at 8 a.m.  The registration fee is $100 and includes lunch.

Area growers are invited to learn about best practices for precise agriculture management using yield monitors and techniques to manage monitoring errors.  Attendees will also participate in an inaugural discussion of the Precision Agriculture Learning Group, a recently sponsored project of the University of Minnesota Precision Agriculture Center.

Most precision agriculture experts believe that yield monitoring is one of the first steps that farmers can take for successful precision management.  Many growers who have started using modern monitoring equipment very quickly learn that not only is precise monitoring important to successful data collection, but that there are also a number of ways monitoring errors can occur.  This workshop is designed to help overcome those errors and help growers make better decisions. Notebook computers will be used for yield map interpretation exercises.

Workshop facilitators include Professor Pierre Roberts and Kellen Sullivan from the University of Minnesota Precision Agriculture Center, Jeff Nesbitt of Precision Partners, UMC faculty Aziz Rahman and Paul Aakre, and local grower, Gary Wagner.  The event is sponsored by UMC’s Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources and UMC’s Office of Continuing Education.

Reserve your seat by calling Aziz Rahman at 218-281-8103 or the Center for Continuing Education at 218-281-8679.  Reservations may also be made via email to arahman@mail.crk.umn.edu.  Disability accommodations are available upon request.
