The University of Minnesota, Crookston announced today that Dave Simon will serve as the new head womens volleyball coach at UMC. He replaces Kelly Hollands, whose contract was not renewed effective March 29. Simon will become UMCs fifth womens volleyball coach; his appointment will begin on July 1. Simon comes to UMC from the University of Wyoming where he has been the top assistant under Susan Judge for the past three seasons. He assisted in all areas with the program with his major duty as recruiting coordinator. A native of Crookston, Minn., Simon graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in Mass Communications (83) and Business Administration (84). He was also a member of the Maverick Baseball Team while at Mankato. Simon received his M.S. Degree in Education (Sport Management) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (94). Previous to his tenure at University of Wyoming, Simon served as the assistant volleyball coach at Virginia Tech from 1992-97. He was also the top assistant at Columbia Heights High School 1989-91 seasons. He was founder/director of the NRV Juniors and has coached various Junior Olympic teams, youth teams and organized and served as the director/coach for numerous camps/clinics including; Minnesota Elite, Reebok Third Coast Championships, Northern Lights, Minnesota Festival. Simon is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, CAP I accredited, IMPACT certified.
