Speaker to Discuss Children’s Safety April 11 at UMCDennis Whipple of the Jacob Wetterling Foundation will discuss children’s safety issues Tuesday, April 11, at 7:00 p.m. in Bede Ballroom on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). He will address such topics as community notification laws, offender profiles, child self-protection, and Internet safety. The event is free and open to the public. Whipple is from Rochester, Minnesota, and is currently the events and Internet specialist for the Jacob Wetterling Foundation. The Foundation works nationally to end child sexual exploitation, abuse, and non-family abduction. Whipple has worked with youth in a variety of settings including youth theater, social service, and multicultural education. He recently completed training in child exploitation prevention and protecting children online through the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Program and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This event is co-sponsored by UMC’s Concerts and Lectures Committee and the Polk County Victim Assistance program.
