UMC Residence Hall Alcohol Policy
"The possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or possession of alcohol containers is not permitted on University premises, which include the grounds, residence halls, and parking lots.
" Students do not need to be in possession of nor consuming alcohol to be held responsible for their actions . If students are in the presence of others violating the alcohol policy, they are subject to disciplinary consequences. It is strongly recommended that students distance themselves from policy violators.
"Residents violating the alcohol policy will be referred for disciplinary action. Depending upon the circumstances of the alcohol violation, disciplinary action may include, but not be limited to: confiscation of the beverage; residence hall fine; conduct probation; reassignment to different living space; referral to the University Counseling Center, educational programs, Detoxification Unit or Glenmore Treatment Center for an evaluation and/or treatment; citations by Security Services; termination of residence hall contract; denial of future housing privileges; and referral to Student Conduct Committee. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of individual residents to know, understand, and comply with existing State and local statutes, codes and regulations relating to the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Violators of the regulations must accept full individual responsibility for their actions and cannot expect the University to provide them with immunity from civil or criminal prosecution ."
Residence hall policy also states:
"Displays of beer cans, liquor bottles, or advertisements are not permitted."
And, finally, residence hall policy also states:
"Residents of the room are responsible for any guests and [for] their guests' behavior while the guests are in the building or on hall property. The University may bring disciplinary action against any resident for his/her guests' violation of policies such as noise, alcohol possession, or damages."
