Application Procedure
Must be admitted first!
  1. Read this entire section first. The Contract is a legally binding document. This contract is for the entire academic year or until you graduate. When the contract is signed, you will be held responsible for having read all information contained in this booklet.

  2. Because of high demand and a limited amount of space, contracts should be returned as soon as possible to the Office of Residential Life, University of Minnesota, Crookston, Minnesota 56716. The receipt of the contract and advance payment by the Office of Residential Life does not guarantee admission to the University or to a residence hall. The Office of Residential Life reserves the right to refuse any application for cause.

  3. Present residents are given priority over incoming students for obtaining halls and rooms of their choice during a specified priority period. They should apply for the hall of their choice during this time. Subsequent to the priority period, all new applicants must apply to the Office of Residential Life.

  4. The Office of Residential Life will make every reasonable effort to comply with the preferences indicated by the students on the contract. However, please realize that some halls fill more rapidly than others and that certain types of accommodations and options, e.g. singles, suites, and visitation options, are in limited supply. Therefore, the choices indicated for specific hall, room numbers, room types, etc. must be considered as preferences only and assignment of any request may be made to any vacancy depending upon availability. We assume that the requested hall preference is of primary importance and will make assignments accordingly.

  5. When completing the contract, please rank, in order of your preference, the halls in which you wish to reside being most important.

  6. All contracts must be signed and completed correctly or they will be returned. Completed contracts must be accompanied by a $100 reservation/security deposit. Students will be mailed their specific room assignments. When applicants cancel their contract prior to assuming occupancy in the residence hall, they forfeit their deposit. Cancellations must be made in writing.

  7. Sign this contract only if you plan to live in the hall for the entire academic year or until you graduate. Students will not be released from their contract unless, with the Director's prior permission, an acceptable substitute is secured to assume the contractual responsibilities in the resident hall. Please refer to Contract Period Conditions; for additional information.

  8. REFUND POLICY -- For students currently residing on campus: Upon notification of cancellation of contract and acceptance of Residential Life Office, students are entitled to a refund of the $50 security deposit upon proper checkout procedures and completed withdrawal form from the Office of the Registrar. If a student's contract is mutually cancelled, the rate will be pro-rated.
