Campus Life & Opportunities
Life as a college student is more than just studying. It’s about having fun, meeting new people, and making memories. UMC students are involved on campus by joining clubs and organizations, attending athletic events, and partaking in on-campus events hosted by various groups. Explore the ways UMC makes your college experience the best it can be!
Clubs and Organizations
Each of our student organizations is tailored to the interests of our students. Not only does UMC have approximately 40 groups for you to join, but every academic area has a correlating organization, making it easy to meet other students with your same interest while adding to your education. And don’t be afraid to join a club outside your major, such as the Hockey Club or Alpha Lambda Delta (First Year Honor Society)!
Campus involvement also leads to networking opportunities at the state, regional, and national level. Many of our clubs attend conferences and partake in competitions. Apply what you learn in the classroom, have fun with other students on campus, and network nation-wide through on campus involvement!
Housing & Residential Life
One suite and two dormitory style residence halls, plus two additional apartment complexes provide coeducational on-campus housing for nearly 700 students. Several Community Advisers (CA) in each of our residence halls help to guide our students through their first year on campus with safety tips, study advice, and encouraging them to get involved in on-campus activities.
All rooms on campus are furnished with extra-long twin beds, wardrobe and drawer space, desk, and chair for each student as well as computer access. Laundry facilities are also within each residence hall.
Many residence halls have lounges for students, friends, and families to just hang out! Depending on the residence hall, you may enjoy watching TV, playing ping-pong or billiards, or getting involved in floor/hall sponsored activities. The people you meet in the residence halls will become a large part of your great experience at UMC!
Our Student Center is the ‘living room’ of our campus, providing daily services, conveniences, and amenities to our students, faculty, and staff. With a pool table, foosball table, air hockey table, big screen TV, wireless internet access, and plenty of study space, you’ll always find students hanging out here. It is UMC’s social center!
With the great landscapes surrounding Crookston in northwestern Minnesota, our Student Center also offers outdoor rental equipment at very affordable prices! Rent cross-country skis, snow shoes, Walkie Talkies, canoes, kayaks, camping supplies, and more!
S.P.A.C.E. – Student Programming & Activities for Campus Entertainment
The Student Activities Office houses S.P.A.C.E. which brings entertainment to campus including planning WOW (What’s on Wednesday) nights as well as coordinating dances, musicians, movies, comedians, hypnotists, or anything else that our students might enjoy.
UMC is a Division II member of the NCAA athletic teams in men’s golf, football, baseball, basketball; and women’s golf, soccer, softball, volleyball, equestrian, tennis, and basketball. As part of campus life, supporting our teams is a great way to relax between studying! Interested in playing sports? Contact Golden Eagle Athletics for more information.
Crookston Student Association
The University of Minnesota, Crookston uses a shared governance philosophy, giving students, faculty, staff and administrators a voice in the decisions that impact the University. The student government on campus, the Crookston Student Association (CSA), is the primary voice of the students. CSA members serve as student representatives on a wide variety of committees across campus including Campus Assembly Committees and Administrative Committees. They actively participate in committees that make crucial decisions affecting UMC students.
