Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award

The Outstanding Service-Learning Faculty Award honors a faculty member who demonstrates excellence incorporating service-learning pedagogy into one or more courses. The recipient uses service-learning best practices as an innovative teaching tool to engage students in civic learning. The recipient’s course(s) also shows evidence of critical reflection, community benefit, and demonstrates a commitment to advocating for service-learning on campus and beyond.

Recognition of the recipient will be at the Spring UMC Faculty & Staff Recognition Celebration with presentation of a plaque for outstanding service-learning and a $200 cash award.  The recipients name will also be on a perpetual plaque that resides with the Community Engagement office.

Eligibility

All University of Minnesota Crookston faculty who have incorporated service-learning into one or more courses.  Award recipients must wait at least three years before they can apply again.

Evaluation Criteria

Evaluation Criteria

Selection shall be comprised of a committee of one representative from each department.  Selection criteria is based on breadth, depth, and length of service-learning instructional experiences; incorporation of service-learning best practices in the course(s); evidence of impact on students, community partners, and institution/department.

  1. Nominations may be made by department heads, faculty colleagues, or self-nominations will be accepted.
  2. Nominator completes award application word-icon and submits two letters of support. Complete application must be received by The Office of Community Engagement by Friday, April 14, 2017.
  3. Completed nomination/application and two letters of support should be sent to:
