The University of Minnesota Extension Service will introduce the new tool, called retail trade analysis (RTA) reporting, at five workshops beginning March 10 through April 14.

    The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) was host to aspiring young scientists and environmental stewards when the10th anniversary of the River Watch program in the Red River Basin was held in Kiehle Auditorium on March 2. UMC’s Natural Resources Department co-hosted the River Watch Forum attended by over 150 high school students from 19 schools in northwest Minnesota and northeastern North Dakota.

Maintenance welding and metal fabrication plays an important role in many of the career paths chosen by students in the Agriculture and Natural Resource majors.

    The University of Minnesota Music-Theater Department is presenting the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, March 9, 10, and 11 at 8:00 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium on the UMC Campus. Admission is $5 adults, $3 children and students, and $1 for UMC students except on Wednesday when UMC students are admitted free.

    Eric Stromstad a UMC senior majoring in Golf Facilities and Turf Systems (GFTS) was awarded the North Dakota Golf Association Scholarship. The scholarship was presented by Bruce Kary of the Dickenson Parks and Recreation department last week at the association’s annual meeting.

The scholarship was presented by Sam Davis of the Wildwood Golf Course and Bruce Kary of the Dickenson Parks and Recreation department last week at the association’s annual meeting.

    The University of Minnesota Board of Regents approved to amend the fiscal year 2005 capital budget by $4.3 million to incorporate funding for a new student housing project on the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) campus.

    University of Minnesota wildlife professor, Dr. John Loegering, recently received the Chapter Service Award from the Minnesota Chapter of The Wildlife Society annual meeting in Fergus Falls. In presenting the award, Chapter President, Mark Hanson noted, “John works hard to promote wildlife sciences in Minnesota, encourages involvement outside the classroom to facilitate personal and professional development in his students, and helps foster an environment where students have fun as they begin to integrate with professionals.

    Russell Kleinschmidt, a UMC senior majoring in wildlife management from Long Prairie, was recently awarded the Student Conservationist Award from the Minnesota Chapter of The Wildlife Society. The award was presented at the annual meeting of the professional organization held in Fergus Falls and recognizes the top wildlife student in all of Minnesota’s colleges and universities.

    Faculty members at the University of Minnesota Crookston opted for union representation as a result of a vote tabulated on February 1. The vote in favor of unionization was 24-22, with three abstentions, according to Education Minnesota, the statewide educators' union that includes the University Education Association (UEA).
