Tuition and Fees

Tuition  -  Students can enroll in 1-19 credits per semester

  • Per credit = $401.50
  • 13 or more credits per semester = $5,219.00 
  • 13 or more credits per semester (yearly cost) = $10,438.00 

Online Course Fee—$50 per credit

Students taking online courses will be charged a $50.00 per credit fee. This fee covers the costs to deliver online courses.


Tuition Banding

  • Students taking 13 or more credits will pay a flat tuition rate of $5,219.00 per semester.
  • Students taking 1 to 12 credits will be assessed $401.50 per credit. 

Our single rate of tuition and fees results in significant savings for a University of Minnesota diploma regardless of where you reside. Financial aid is available for degree seeking students who qualify.


No Out-of-State Tuition

The UMN Crookston online programs are an affordable choice for anyone! Whether you live just across the border, across the country or on the other side of the ocean, you pay the same as those who live in Minnesota.

FAFSA and Loans

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Online students can apply for financial aid grants and loans by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA.
  • Please add the University of Minnesota Crookston’s school code: 004069 to your FAFSA.
  • If you take fewer than 12 credits in a semester, and you qualify for a Federal Pell Grant your award will be prorated based on the number of credits you enroll in.
  • Consideration for financial aid cannot be guaranteed unless your FAFSA and any additional supporting documents are submitted to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester. Once the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships receives your FAFSA and additional requested documents, financial aid will be awarded.

Online Achievement Scholarships

Online Achievement Scholarships are awarded to new online first-year and transfer UMN Crookston students. Students must demonstrate academic achievement, leadership qualities, community involvement, and educational and career goals in their admissions application. Your application is all that is required to determine if you qualify for a scholarship. No additional information is needed. Student's scholarship awards range from $500-$2000 and is adjusted based on credit enrollment:

  • $500 6-8 credit enrollment
  • $1000 for 9-11 credit enrollment
  • $2000 for 12+ credit enrollment

The scholarship is renewable up to four years for first-year students and two years for transfer students. You must maintain a 2.25 cumulative GPA to continue to receive your scholarship.

Important scholarship criteria and requirements:

  • Available for students seeking their first bachelor's degree
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Scholarships are dispersed equally across fall and spring semesters

Specialty Scholarships

  •  Specialty Scholarships are awarded to students based on a specific set of criteria that may include only one or several of the following: academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership, service, financial need and legacy.
  • Online degree-seeking students who are enrolled in 12 or more credits

Online Learning Scholarship

  • Online degree-seeking students who are enrolled in 6 or more credits may apply for the Online Learning Scholarship.
  • This is a $500 annual scholarship where $250 is awarded each semester.
  • This scholarship is only for online students.
  • You will be asked to attach your resume to your application.
  • Students apply through the Specialty Scholarship Online Application Process.

Berland Grant

  • The grant pays for the tuition and fees of one class and required books to support students entering or returning to school after a five-year break.
  • Students are eligible for the Berland Grant for one semester and may not receive other financial aid while receiving the Berland Grant.
